Second IMPACT Workshop Kick-Off

Impact CoCNews

Alojz Androvic of Univerzitná knižnica v Bratislave (University Library Bratislava) gives a formal welcome to all delegates to this second IMPACT workshop.  He explains that the Library is “ninety years young” and therefore still very much in development; he welcomes the opportunity that workshops such as this give him and his institution to learn and share information.  He describes IMPACT’s commitment to working outside its defined partners as a smart development in EU Projects.

Aly Conteh of The British Library takes over, introducing the workshop theme: ‘Research results and practical experience from the IMPACT Project.’  Aly outlines the format of the workshop, which will explain the historical issues surrounding the OCR of text material, IMPACT’s approach to them, and demonstrate some of the tools IMPACT have developed to help overcome them.  The workshop will conclude with a session on the use of digitised text collections by end users, and a question and answer session.

We’ll be blogging the workshop all day, posting up presentations, photos and films (as they become available), so check back with us as the day goes on.  Alternatively, you can follow IMPACT on Twitter, @impactocr, and you’ll be automatically notified of any blog updates.
