Clemens Neudecker, IMPACT technical project manager, presents the IMPACT Framework that enables end users to interact with IMPACT tools and applications in a clear and consistent way. The Framework consists of open source software components and is based on open standards.
The 23 IMPACT tools are tranformed to web services and can be combined in various workflows. IMPACT collaborates with the MyGrid project (http://www.mygrid.org.uk/) and uses their Taverna software for building these workflows. The workflow registry is MyExperiment (http://www.myexperiment.org).

One of the most important uses of the Framework in IMPACT is as a tool for evaluating the different tools, by comparing the results of various workflows (with images from the library datasets and 100% correct ground truth text as input). These images and ground truth are stored in a repository by PRImA, University of Salford (at the moment there are over half a million images).

Een belangrijk nut van het framework in IMPACT is dat het gebruikt kan worden voor evaluatie van de verschillende tools, door vergelijking van de resultaten van verschillende workflows (met als input afbeeldingen uit de datasets van bibliotheken uit IMPACT en 100% correcte ground truth tekst). Deze afbeeldingen en ground truth worden beheerd in een repository door IMPACT partner PRImA, Universiteit van Salford (momenteel zijn dit meer dan een half miljoen afbeeldingen).
