Segmentation (image processing)

Impact Centre of Competence

« Back to Glossary Index

The process of partitioning a digital image into multiple regions (defined as sets of pixels). The goal of segmentation is to simplify and/or change the representation
of an image into something that is easier for a machine to analyse. Image segmentation is typically used to locate objects and boundaries – such as lines and curves – within images.
