« Back to Glossary Index

An all-purpose term for unwanted visual effects imported into a digital image by the process of image capture. Commonly caused by electrical interference in a scanner’s light sensor, digital noise will most often manifest as unidentifiable specks of bright or dark colour. Noise can have deleterious effects on OCR accuracy. See also: OCR accuracy.
