SUMMARY:LDS Technology WorkshopLegislation and regulation for data spaces: an environment to foster data sharing and AI development
DESCRIPTION:As part of the regulation of the European digital single market\, the EU lawmakers have agreed on a range of legal instruments aiming to foster the development of a European data market. These legal instruments derive from the European Commission’s Strategy for Data\, which comprises a series of resolutions\, related communications and declarations outlining principles that pave the way for legislation. \n\n\n\nThis workshop will aim to give a panorama of the regulations that have been adopted or that are still in the pipeline for implementation in the data market (Digital Services Act (DSA)\, Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market\, Data Act (DA)\, Data Governance Act (DGA)\, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Artificial Intelligence Act). It will also provide keys to understanding the interactions between these different legal instruments\, their impact on the landscapes of Data Spaces and Artificial Intelligence\, and how they will influence the data economy.

DESCRIPTION:Open day dedicated to the launch of the OSCARS project Open Call for Open Science projects\, which will take place in Thessaloniki\, Greece\, on Friday\, 15 March 2024. Online attendance is possible. The call\, which is the first of two calls foreseen in the frame of the project (total worth ~16 million EUR)\, aims to support research communities from any scientific domain to take up open science and foster the involvement of scientists in EOSC.Researchers from all scientific disciplines are welcome to apply with proposals for the development of new\, innovative Open Science projects or services\, that together will drive the uptake of FAIR-data-intensive research throughout the European Research Area (ERA).Projects – which will be funded with a lump sum between 100\,000 and 250\,000 EUR – can be proposed in the field of any of the Science Clusters and beyond by any researcher or group of researchers.By the end of the project\, it is expected that a series of valuable scientific demonstrators will be available\, leading to an increased uptake of Open Science by researchers and to promote cross-border and cross-domain cooperation in the long run.During the event\, participants will learn more about the scope and content of the call\, and will be welcome to raise any questions about the call and the application process. \n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\n\n WHY ATTEND?\n\n\n\n\n\nTo learn about OSCARS and the opportunity given by the 1st OSCARS Open Call for Open Science projects\, which will be launched on March 15th\, 2024.\n\n\n\nTo ask any question related to the call and get useful answers to increase the chances of submitting a successful proposal.\n\n\n\n\nWHO SHOULD ATTEND?\n\n\n\n\nResearchers from all scientific disciplines\n\n\n\nData scientists\n\n\n\nMembers of research infrastructures\n\n\n\n\nOSCARS is a four-year EU-funded project that will foster the uptake of Open Science in Europe by consolidating the achievements of world-class European research infrastructures in the ESFRI roadmap and beyond into lasting interdisciplinary FAIR data services and working practices. The project will strengthen the role of the Science Clusters in the ERA by developing domain-based Competence Centres and by fostering the implementation of Open Science projects funded through a cascading grant mechanism.

SUMMARY:CLARIN-EHRI Workshop | "Natural Language Processing Meets Holocaust Archives"
DESCRIPTION:This interactive\, hands-on workshop is a cooperation between two transnational European research infrastructures\, bringing language technology together with Holocaust archives and data. The Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure (CLARIN) develops and supports state-of-the-art language tools and datasets as well as expertise on language technologies. The European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) provides access to information about dispersed Holocaust archives and supports the Holocaust research community. Both infrastructures aim to empower researchers who tackle the challenges of the digital turn in the humanities and social sciences. Since the Czech node of EHRI is a part of the broader LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ research infrastructure\, Prague is a natural venue for discussing connections and cooperations.
