SUMMARY:IMPACT 10th Anniversary Workshop and Writing Sprint
DESCRIPTION:Established in December 2012\, the IMPACT Centre of Competence in Digitisation will celebrate its 10th Birthday on 12th December 2022. With its foundation in the European-funded IMProving ACcess to Text project (2008-2012) and strengthened through the SUCCEED project (2013-2014).While IMPACT’s original vision of “making digitisation: better\, faster and cheaper”\, still holds true\, a key challenge is how to integrate state-of-the-art digitisation research into day-to-day digitisation practices and operations. As we reach our 10th Anniversary\, now is the ideal opportunity to review our achievements of the past and make plans for the future.  \nThe aim of the IMPACT 10th Birthday Workshop and Writing Sprint is to document the key themes and challenges for the international digitisation community as well pave the way for establishing a common interdisciplinary research agenda for cultural heritage; digital humanities; computer and data science\, applied to the field of digitisation. Building on our IMPACT Action Plan 2022\, which outlines the crucial role that the Centre of Competence has to play in the digitisation landscape\, the workshop will bring together key members from the IMPACT Community\, alongside a range of experts and interested parties who are active in the international digitisation community.   \nThe output of the workshop will be an IMPACT 10th Anniversary White Paper\, provisionally entitled: Sharing and Sustaining Digitisation Knowledge. It is expected to explore a number of key themes such as: Digitisation Quality and Standards; Datafication of Digitised Cultural Heritage; Digitisation Workflows and Tools and Digitisation Community Management.  \nThe IMPACT 10th Birthday Workshop and Writing Sprint will take place from 12th-14th December 2022 at the University of Alicante\, Spain. Participation in the workshop is free of charge and based on by invitation only. \nIMPACT 10th Bday Workshop – List of recommended hotels \nDraft programme\nMonday 12th December 2022\n10:00 Meeting of the Editorial Team (IMPACT Core Team & Theme Leaders) \n13:00 Welcome. SUMMARY:Towards implementing Collections as Data in GLAM institutions
DESCRIPTION:The webinar will bring together theory and practice on how to make available GLAM digital collections as datasets for publication and re-use by researchers\, GLAM professionals\, creative workers and other users. As the options for preparing collections as data are nearly endless\, starting the implementation of the Collections as Data principle may be daunting. To support GLAM institutions to start on this journey\, the webinar gives a practical overview of the steps that can be taken and presents some of the choices to be made. You will also learn about real-life examples from the National Library of Scotland\, the German National Library\, the Library of Congress\, Europeana\, KBR – Royal Library of Belgium and the Royal Danish Library.\nTo be able to cater the webinar to the community’s needs and in order to understand the current knowledge and uptake of the Collections as Data principle in GLAM institutions\, we invite you to complete a brief survey (up to 10 minutes) by October 20th\, 2022. The survey results will also be integrated in research related to enhancing the application of the Collections as Data principle in GLAM institutions. \nThis webinar is open to all and free to attend. Registration is necessary and possible via this link: https://dariah.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEuduupqT4pE9ASLO7lOC7yXflrK__oMVmK

SUMMARY:TPDL 2022
DESCRIPTION:The International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries (TPDL) is a yearly date for researchers on Digital Libraries and related topics. For over twenty-five years TPDL has been an international reference forum focused on digital libraries and associated technical\, practical\, and social issues. TPDL encompasses the many meanings of the term “digital libraries”\, including new forms of information institutions; operational information systems with all manner of digital content; new means of selecting\, collecting\, organizing\, and distributing digital content; and theoretical models of information media\, including document genres and electronic publishing. Digital libraries may be viewed as a new form of information institution or as an extension of the services libraries currently provide. Representatives from academia\, government\, industry\, research communities\, research infrastructures\, and others are invited to participate in this annual conference. The conference draws from a broad and multidisciplinary array of research areas including computer science\, information science\, librarianship\, archival science and practice\, museum studies and practice\, technology\, social sciences\, cultural heritage and humanities\, and scientific communities. This year its focus is on bridging the wide field of Research and Information Science with the related field of Digital Libraries. Indeed\, TPDL historically approached on “Digital libraries” embracing the field at large also comprehending three key areas of interest that can be synthesized as scholarly communication (e.g. research data\, research software\, digital experiments\, digital libraries)\, e-science/computationally-intense research (e.g. scientific workflows\, Virtual Research Environments\, reproducibility) and library\, archive and information science (e.g. governance\, policies\, open access\, open science). This emphasises TPDL’s role over the last 25 years as a forum that brings together researchers and practitioners whose work intersects with Digital Libraries. Regardless of how your work connects with Digital Libraries\, we invite you to participate.

The manifold topics addressed in this workshop encompass the entire processing chain from image acquisition to information extraction. We include the growing importance of machine learning in this processing chain\, such as convolutional and recurrent neural networks\, and we encourage the presentation of entire projects in the context of historical documents. \nHIP’21 is organised by Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis (PRImA) group of the University of Salford together with the Berlin State Library. \n[/cs_text][/cs_column][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/3″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_recent_posts type=”post” count=”4″ offset=”” category=”HIP21″ orientation=”vertical” no_sticky=”true” no_image=”false” fade=”false”][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][/cs_content]

Serving as digital ecosystems for empowering researchers and practitioners they provide unparalleled opportunities for novel knowledge extraction and discovery. TPDL 2019 attempts to facilitate establishing connections and convergences between diverse research communities such as Digital Humanities\, Information Sciences and others that could benefit from (and contribute to) ecosystems offered by digital libraries and repositories. To become especially useful to the diverse research and practitioner communities digital libraries need to consider special needs and requirements for effective data utilization\, management and exploitation. \n[/cs_text][/cs_column][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/3″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_recent_posts type=”post” count=”4″ offset=”” category=”TPDL2019″ orientation=”vertical” no_sticky=”true” no_image=”false” fade=”false”][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][/cs_content]
